Our Mission
We are dedicated to inspiring the next generation of scientists. Our mission is to promote interest in astronomy and STEM through engaging, hands-on projects that families can enjoy together.
Why choose Cassi
A few years ago, I found myself eager to dive into astronomy and get a telescope. But which one? The selection seemed endless. The prices ranged from $150 to $5,000, yet they gave little indication of which mirror size helps you see Jupiter’s moons, or what aperture you should choose while living in a big city.
That frustration inspired me to join forces with the Institute of Optics at the University of Rochester. Over three years, my team collaborated with talented senior students and inspiring faculty advisors to develop Cassi from the ground up.
With Cassi, you'll explore how each part works: from the primary mirrors to the focusing knobs. You’ll enjoy discovering how optics influence your image, uncover features that reveal breathtaking deep-sky objects, and learn tips to capture stunning photos, even in areas with light pollution.
Cassi is friendly, engaging, and perfect for explorers of all levels. It provides a delightful stargazing experience that is both educational and enjoyable. Each adventure feels personal and exciting, making learning about the stars a fun and memorable journey.

FAQs
How does Cassi work?
Your kit includes everything you need to start sky watching. All you need to do is assemble the telescope body, insert the mirrors and scope, set up a fine-tuning system, and attach a scope or camera.
What if I don't know anything about telescopes and astronomy?
Don't worry! We knew very little about telescopes when we started working on Cassi. We wanted this project to serve as a guide to the exciting world of astronomy. Cassi includes an introduction to telescopes - a booklet written by inspiring scientists. You will learn about various types of telescopes, how they work, and the key components that are important in space imaging.
What is the lead time for your products?
Lead times vary depending on the product availability. We are working to deliver the first orders by Summer 2026.
What is Cassi’s primary mirror diameter?
Great you asked! Cassi has a 6” diameter primary mirror. It collects enough light to reveal many celestial objects, including nebulae, galaxies, and star clusters, while remaining portable and easy to use.
